This is so beautiful. It is inscribed with 'Golden Wedding -To my brother - 29-1-27'. Does anyone know who this would be?

Martha Johnson (nee Dowling) had a large family which has grown and spread across the world. This family is now in it's fourth generation and all her descendants are invited to post family news and photos, new or old. This blog could help keep our big scattered family a little closer.
Wouldn't it be great to work out who this great looking couple are.
ReplyDeleteLooking at the clues - perhaps this photo came from Aunty Wyn or Uncle Fred - Martha's sister and brother. They lived with their father John H Dowling (Martha's Dad).
Maybe one of the Wedding couple is a sibling of John H Dowling - (Martha's Dad). That would put the couple as born around 1850 ish.
If anyone has access to ancestry.com then they could check out if one of John's older brothers or sisters got married on 29 Jan 1877 - assuming the date on the photo is the anniversary date.
John's siblings are Catherine, Sarah, James, Elizabeth, Peter or Ellin Dowling - I think.
Good hunting.......
This is Elizabeth Dowling b. 1854. She is our John Dowling's {b. 1860} older sister. I have been in touch with some of her descendents who live in the south of England. She was indeed married in 1877 to Benjamin Edward Bailey, a Registrar of Births and Deaths. Thanks for the pic!
ReplyDeletePS This is Margaret Griffin Adams from USA. Henry Dowling was my granddad.
Margaret -- where in the US are you. I am one of Martha's grandchildren, daughter of Dolly, and have been living in the US for 42+ years. I would love to hear from you. My email is: cupot@gmail.com
