Susan asked how granddad died. Edward Johnson died in Walton Hospital Liverpool aged 57 of liver failure, dad seems to think it would have been caused by going in and out of the big ships freezers were the meat was stored and not wearing a coat to keep out the cold.
Dad can't remember Edward having any brothers or sisters but maybe Helen will be able to delve into that now that she has a bit more info which is on Martha & Edwards marriage certificate. Dad tells me that John Dowling, Marthas dad lived in Marmion st aintree and would call on dad who then lived in wallasey on his way to watch the cricked at the cricket club in Rake Lane wallasey. Dad remembers he wore either a bowler or a straw boater and was a very smart man. Regards to all Edward & Martha's family.

Hi Ray
ReplyDeleteI remember my Mum Rene would say that her Grandad was nick named Gentleman John. He was always very dapper and dressed smart. His full name was John Henry Cruise Dowling born 1860 - died 1956.
Re Marmion Street....Auntie Winnie lived in #21 Marmion with her husband and brother (Bob I think) but it was in Bootle. That was the house our Michael and Helen bought when Auntie Winnie died. Wondering if it is one and the same?
ReplyDeleteIf Granddad did have any brothers or sisters, gosh, we may have a whole new family out there somewhere!! Amazing.
ReplyDeleteThe family tree information is terrific Ray -- thanks so much for all the updates. I wonder if (cousin) Derek in Colorado has any input....I know he has done a lot of research on Ancestry.com....I will give him a call and either have him post to confirm or I will.
Again Ray....thanks for the info. Hopefully we will meet on one of my trips to Liverpool. Am planning a short stay in June before heading up to Edinburgh for a week then off to Spain for 3 weeks. Maybe we could fit in a quick visit then....
